Information Introduction

Located approximately 814 kilometers from Bangkok is Krabi Province, one of most attractive destinations in southern Thailand. Encompassing an area of 4,708 square kilometers, the western border of Krabi is the Andaman Sea, the northern borders are Surat Thani and Phang-nga Provinces, the southern borders are Trang Province and the Andaman Sea and the eastern borders are Nakhon Si Thammarat and Trang Provinces. Krabi is an ideal getaway destination teeming with natural attractions including white sandy beaches, fascinating coral reefs, numerous large and small islands and verdant forests with caves and waterfalls.

Krabi’s topography is mostly mountains and highlands separated by plans in some parts. Flowing through Krabi City to the Andaman Sea at Pak Nam Sub-district is Maenam Krabi which is 5 kilometers in length. In addition, there are several canals originating from the province’s highest mountain range, Khao Phanom Bencha including Khlong Pakasai, Khlong Krabi Yai and Khlong Krabi Noi. Lush mangrove forests line the canals and the banks of Maenam Krabi particularly before it empties into the Andaman Sea. The province’s sandy soil conditions are suitable for growing various agricultural products, particularly rubber trees, palms, coconuts, cashew nuts and coffee.

In addition, Krabi is the location of the world famous of PhiPhi Island and two world class beaches – Ao Nang and Hat Rai Le which offer numerous diving trips, restaurants, shops etc. Additional attractions in the province are stunning limestone cliffs and rock formations which make it a heaven for rock climbers and a National Park located approximately 40 kilometers outside of town with lakes, caves and spectacular natural scenery.

Lanta Islands is geographically regarded as the gateway to the dive sites of the southern Andaman Sea. It is surrounded by many islands well-known for dive sites.
Talad Saladan or Leam Tueng Tourists who come by tour operator’s boats will step down on Koh Lanta Yai first at Talad Saladan pier or Leam Tueng as called by the locals. Pimalai Resort and Spa, realizing the importance of protecting underwater ecosystems, is pleased to be a leader in initiating an annual clownfish release program. The 6th clownfish release was held on 21 March 2009 near Koh Haa, Krabi. Two hundred well-loved ?Nemos? were released, firstly into fifty underwater cages which allow the fish to adapt themselves to their new environment and help them to survive predation from other fish. Full release from the cages to the vagaries of nature will take place when we return to Koh Haa in April.

This significant and eco-friendly event also aims to promote the ?symbiotic? relationship that exists between the clownfish and anemones and the necessity to keep a balance between fish and plants in the underwater world.

A main objective of releasing these clownfish is to make people realise how human activities can interfere with the very survival of at-risk species such as the clownfish. This project aims to trigger awareness of the local people in a hope that they will stop catching these fish for sale as pets and start to appreciate and respect our valuable, yet fragile, environment.

Ideally situated in the growing southern Thailand province of Krabi, Koh Lanta has converted from an 80′s backpacker haunt into a new hot spots in South East Asia. And while budget travelers still find ample space to cool their heels, Lanta has gone up-market in the past few years with new four and five star resorts dotting its picturesque 40 kilometers of Andaman Sea coastline. The island’s proximity to Phuket, Phi Phi, Krabi and even Bangkok, makes it a great holiday alternative to other crowded and commercial tropical island destinations.

Koh Lanta is actually made of two islands; Koh Lanta Noi and Koh Lanta Yai. Koh Lanta Noi is the smaller of the two islands and doesn’t have tourist facilities. Visitors traveling by road from the mainland travel across the smaller island on the way to the resorts on Koh Lanta Yai.

Historically, Koh Lanta Yai played a major role as a safe-haven port for traders from Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. Originally, Si Raya (known today as Lanta Old town) on the east coast, acted as the port and commercial center for the island and provided safe harbor for Arabic and Chinese trading vessels sailing between the larger ports of Phuket, Penang and Singapore. Today, Old Town is a small sleepy village with 100 year-old shacks and shop-houses built on stilts over the water. Nowadays, Ban Saladan on the northern tip of the island is the business and commercial center where most visitors arrive on the island.

Koh Lanta Yai is a long thin island running north-south; approximately 32 kms long by 6 kms wide. It has a very diverse cultural mix with Thai-Muslim, Thai-Chinese and the original Sea Gypsies, all having lived on the island in harmony for hundreds of years. The west coast, where Pimalai is located, faces the Andaman Sea with a string of great white-sand beaches and offers most unforgettable sunsets. The east coast is less developed and offers glimpses of life before tourism. It faces the mainland and has a coastline largely consisting of mangroves and large limestone rock formations functioning as a spectacular natural postcard.

Koh Lanta Yai has something for everyone – families, backpackers and up-scale travelers – each of whom can select their own particular style of island life. It has a beach, a resort and activities to suit all tastes.

Our beach resort at Pimalai, located on the south west coast of the island of Koh Lanta Yai in the province of Krabi, lies about 7 degrees north of the equator. Please see the map on the right. Overland transport or a combination of overland and boat travel can take you to the resort. Also, overland access may be made from the adjacent provinces of Trang, Phangna and Phuket. This bar and restaurant, is located right on the beach, nestled beneath towering trees from where guests can take in the sweeping views of the Andaman Sea and experience gentle southern breezes. The menu features casual light snacks, including salads, pasta pizzas and great sandwiches. In the evenings guest can choose from an abundant array of fresh, succulent seafood caught locally. Grilled, steamed or fried the chefs are there to prepare your favorite dish to your liking.

Baan Pimalai Restaurant

The main restaurant offers an outdoor dining area with sweeping views of the resort’s infinity-edge swimming pool, the landscaped gardens and the bay. A great breakfast buffet is served daily whilst lunch and dinner “a la carte” menus offer both Thai and Western dining choices.

Phi Phi Island Dive Village is a PADI 5 Star Gold Palm Dive Centre since 1999 in recognition to providing a full range of diver educational programs to marine environmental awareness as part of Phi Phi Island Village Beach Resort & Spa. Phi Phi Island Dive Village is also a proud member of ?Green Fins?, a new governing body under the auspice of the United Nations Environmental Program and Phuket Marine Biological Centre initiatives, launched 29 May 2007. As a member of PADI and Green Fins, Phi Phi Island Village actively participates in helping toward conservation for the protection of a sensitive biodiversity for future generations that come to appreciate one of nature?s most beautiful marine environments on earth.

Our Dive Village Centre provides full quality services and facilities in support to the selection of program courses available in aid to learning the basic fundamentals as a novice to accommodating for the most experienced of divers. Dive courses are available in many different languages.

Wedding

The Thai ceremony is a wonderfully spiritual yet light-hearted affair, with a beautiful balance between ceremony and familiar warmth. Our resort offers a traditional representation of the wedding ceremony, with the finest attention paid to the minutest details. We present a genuine reverence for the ceremony, and affection for the couple, their families and their guests.

Thai Wedding Day :
Usually the wedding events are held open air in the morning or late afternoon and are approx. one hour duration, followed by cocktails, and then dinner on the beach afterward.
