Mountain magic. Rustic charm. Laid-back luxury.

The refreshing chill of a Northern Thai sunrise shrouded in mountain mist. The rush of a longboat ride up the Mekong to Laos. The exhilaration of riding an elephant through bamboo jungle along the border of Burma. Discover this unforgettable Golden Triangle resort.

Perched on a ridge overlooking the hills of Myanmar and Laos, Anantara’s Golden Triangle resort is as enchanting as the region in which it is located. Explore the surrounding forest on an elephant. Spend the day rejuvenating at the Anantara Spa. To experience our Golden Triangle resort is to savour the unforgettable natural beauty of this evocative corner of Southeast Asia. And to experience it in the laid-back resort luxury that can only be described as Anantara.

Surrounded by the natural beauty of Northern Thailand’s rugged hill country, Anantara’s Golden Triangle resort is a luxury nature retreat set amidst 160 acres of lush tropical jungles overlooking the winding Mekong River and the border with Burma and Laos.

This Golden Triangle resort offers 58 deluxe guest rooms, each with views of three countries from balconies with in-built sofas, while the 19 spacious Anantara Suites combine traditional Thai art and high design, featuring hardwood floors, double balconies and open bathrooms with oversized tubs for two.

We also invite you to explore the vibrant culture of Thailand and Southeast Asia with our Thai cooking school, guided visits to local hill tribe villages, excursions to Burma’s colourful border markets and the longtail boat rides up the Mekong to Laos.

At the end of a perfect day, relax at our hilltop infinity-edged swimming pool overlooking the Mekong Valley. The museum focuses on opium, opiates, narcotics and the drug eradication measures carried out by Thailand’s late Princess Mother through intriguing interactive displays.

Longtail Boat Trips
The only way to see the Mekong River is on a longtail boat. Visit the ancient Northern Thai walled city of Chiang Saen, float by the village of Chang Khong and speed over to neighbouring Don Sao island for a brief encounter with the charming culture of Laos.
Elephant Camp
Designed as a traditional northern Thai mahout village, our onsite working Elephant Camp is the setting for our most sought-after Golden Triangle resort activities, offering the chance to interact with elephants in a stunning natural environment while helping to contribute to the conservation efforts of the resort.

Elephant Trekking
Discover the region the way it was meant to be explored: from atop an elephant! Our acres of bamboo jungle and riverside trails are the setting for leisurely ambles atop our two-ton beauties. Start your day with a morning trek along the Ruak River ? as close to Burma as you can get without a passport!

Fitness
A fully equipped fitness centre is located onsite, surrounded by the lush forest landscape, complete with treadmills, exercise bikes and weights equipment, including free weights. An squash court is also available for indoor play.

Lanna Cooking School
Learn the delicate art of Thai cuisine, including some distinctly Northern specialties. Visit the local market with the chef, learn to choose fresh produce and indigenous ingredients,? then spend the morning preparing rustic but delectable curries, soups, appetizers and traditional desserts.

Native Tree Planting
Contribute to Anantara’s conservation work and leave behind a noble monument to your visit that will last for years to come. Pllant a tree at Anantara and help us keep the local environment green. We’ll print a plaque or dedication with your name and care for your tree until you visit again.

Swimming
Anantara Golden Triangle Resort & Spa is proud to be the site of the most idyllic pools in all of Asia, frequently highlighted in the global travel media. Float in the free-form, infinity-edged pool looking down over the tree canopy towards the Mekong River and up to the green hills of Myanmar and Laos.

Elephant Camp

An elephant ?drive’ at sunrise. A dip in the river. Treks through bamboo groves and rice paddy. A rare glimpse at life in a traditional mahout’s village. The Elephant Camp at Anantara Golden Triangle Resort & Spa is designed along the lines of the traditional mahout’s villages found in the hills of Northern Thailand in the days when logging employed the majority of Thailand’s elephants.

The Royal Thai Government, with Royal support, set up the Thai Elephant Conservation Centre (TECC) to act as a central body for the conservation of elephants, both domestic and wild and the communities that depend on them for their livelihood. Anantara Golden Triangle is proud to host the Northern extension of the Centre’s activities.

A true highlight of the Anantara Experience at Anantara Golden Triangle, our Elephant Camp and its resident cast of jumbo beauties offers our guests a rare opportunity to get up close and personal with these gentle giants. Some of the activities on offer include:

Elephant Driving

A skilled mahout can guide his elephant through its working day with around 70 soft commands, light touches behind the ear and years of understanding between the elephant and his master. But did you know that anyone can drive an elephant? A short half-hour lesson will teach you the basic commands and actions, give you the thrill of riding on the neck of this magnificent beast and having it respond to your commands.

Elephant Trekking

A trek through our forest will include many habitat types from thick bamboo to riverine flood plain and an ideal chance to see the birds and small mammals that inhabit the area.

Elephant Bathing

During the hot weather, elephants love nothing more than to take to the water. Bathing is fun to watch and even more fun to take part in! Take a pair of sandals and some short trousers down to the Ruak River or the bathing pool, help the mahout and really get to know our elephants.

Forest Living Skills

Ask the mahouts to share their knowledge of edible herbs and jungle medicines for human and elephant. And learn the best places to search for the insects that spice up the diet of the mahout!

Experience the Elephant Webcam

Anytime of day, the Elephant Webcam gives you a bird?s eye view of action at the camp! Watch our mahouts preparing the elephants for a thrilling day out on the trail. The camp, designed in the traditional style of a mahout village, preserves a nurturing environment for the elephant community. Catch a glimpse of the different personalities of these gregarious animals.

Spa
A natural convergence of three countries and a majestic valley view is the setting of the Bill Bensley-designed Anantara Spa at Anantara Golden Triangle Resort & Spa. A union in the latest trends in contemporary design with the rustic charm of Northern Thailand. Five luxurious teakwood rooms with private en-suite shower and steam rooms feature impressive views of Anantara’s surrounding Thai gardens, green Burmese valley, Laotian hills and the mighty Mekong River.

From a private terrace with terrazzo soaking tubs of utmost comfort and luxury, delight in verdant landscape before a signature aromatherapy massage and blended fruit scrub.

As a small, close-knit community, guests share their dining experiences in locations that may vary from day to day. Breakfast is served at Nong Yao, our main restaurant. Lunch may be a picnic in the jungle. After late-afternoon activities, catch a sundowner ? 30 minutes of snacks and refreshments while you watch the sky turn golden. Dinner may be an event at the Camp, too. It may be a private barbecue under the stars, a five-course formal meal or a dinner by campfire at Elephant Camp.

For your excursions, picnic baskets can be prepared from a choice of items and served in Four Seasons style complete with folding camp table, stools and linen napkins. (Fees apply to dinner and picnic baskets.)

Pool

The free-form pool and connected whirlpool provide guests with a relaxing break between other activities. Located on a higher level and landscaped with local granite boulders and teak logs, the pools overlook the Ruak River. Snacks and beverages are served poolside from sunrise to sunset.

The Camp experience

You’ve yearned for adventure, and have wanted to discover the mysteries of the Golden Triangle. In an all-inclusive three-or four-night adventure designed for active adults at the Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle, unique activities await you from the moment you arrive in a traditional long tail boat.

Here, you will be trained to drive and trek an elephant through Thailand’s tropical jungles, hike on mysterious mountain trails, venture on a river excursion down the mighty Mekong or discover local cultures. On the Camp grounds, pathways along the hillside lead you to secluded accommodations nestled in the midst of a magical natural forest environment. A suspension bridge 18 metres (60 feet) above the San Valley connects two ridges, offering an alternative to the winding trail in the verdant valley below.

The airport is serviced by Thai Airways, Orient Thai Airlines, AirAsia and Siam General Aviation (SGA).

By road from Chiang Mai
The four-hour journey between Chiang Mai and the Tented Camp is one of the most scenic drives in Thailand, passing dozens of hill-tribe villages.
